Round Bale Spacing to Prevent Mold in the Gap

James Wedeking writes:

In Iowa I leave at least a one foot spacing around round bales stored outside. If  they are butted tight end to end moisture will cause mold to grow in the  gap ( you  can’t butt them tight enough!!!) If you can’t cover them give them air flow and sunshine. I’ve been to many hay auctions and you can see the bales where no gap has been left.
